As a bit of a follow up to a conversion Marc and I were having about bug reporting, here is a screenshot of the TrueNAS beta bug reporting system. Built into a web interface, and allows a user to submit reports with a lot of data gathered through the interface.

This could maybe look like a module or something like that in Tiki, which could be enabled by default in master? Just thinking out loud here.

In the case of TrueNAS there looks to be a closed source backend behind it run by atlassian.net.

I like that:

1. The page and much of the relevant data to reproduce the issue is collected by the interface.
2. It makes bug reporting simple, so more reports are filed. See a bug, report it right away without leaving your page.
3. It automatically takes a screenshot of what is there for you. You can disable it if there is sensitive data, but it’s easy to do.
4. This probably provides an objective ways to cross reference reports. For example, if POST & GET data was included, or a system report was included that included things like PHP version etc. One one sees multiple reports coming from the same page with similar PHP versions, or similar GET or POST data then it provides additional information which in our old way of doing things we would never be able to figure out based on the reports.

A limitation is that it may not be suitable for production websites with sensitive data, or at the very least less data may need to be provided.

Brendan
