Disclaimer: I first installed Tikiwiki 13-14 years ago (version 1.7.2) and

I've corrected the database. But it wasn't the solution - see below.

Solution:
So it turns out, that both blogs have some content stored in Edit blog -
Display Options: Blog heading and Blog post heading. I've never touched
those fields for myself, so probably it was carried over from a version
long before. Blog post heading had two instances of
{$post_info.title|escape} and and instance of {$blog_data.title|escape}.
Removing the escapes took care of the problem!
