re-vamping video: next round table april 19

​Hello all Tiki admins|super users|affectionados| etc,

I think my previous post did not get  through, so here it is again.


I'm using this mail-list to reach those who are involved in the tiki
community and interessted to see it move forward, using video.

Let's say it's been a long time I write to the group so please feel to
correct some of my statements.

Last month I got invited by Gary to hear and say a word or two about my
thoughts on the subject of video.

Here is my take:
I spoke up and said

"I'm available a little bit, volunteering, to do certain things under
certain conditions, one of which is that I would need a mentor sort of
speaking so that I don't make the same mistakes I did last"

Those who participated in the round table spoke up and expressed their
thoughts on the matter too. Thank you all.

As it shows on the on the live tiki page, I will participate at the next
errl April 19 sy the round table to hear others.  I will not say or have
items brought to the agenda this month. However Bernard, if you wish to do
a second round of consultation on this topic if you have questions, I can
participate and give my 2cents.

Here is what I've done since the March round table:

A) I exchanged a couple of emails with Gary and Marc.

B) What stops me from writing a use case?

If I think only for_my_self, there is a piece of information I don't have
yet which restrains me from moving forward and that information|question
is: What about Kaltura?

For those who know me and how I earn a living: I am a SDR (Sales
Development Representative) and to be back into watching *a Tiki
Integration Process with Kaltura is an exiting proposition*.  The market
for local newspapers, for example, is a good sales target for me to get new
clients (the publishing industry at large is my_turf, let's say) and when
it comes down to offering a video integration product, those in IT usualy
know about two CDN solutions: Brightcove and Kaltura.  If I approach a
prospect and I can not "sell them the idea of using Tiki because it
integrates one of these two well known products: I'm out of the race.

After the march round table, on this topic (always video that is), when I
exchanged emails with Gary, I recall he said something to the effect that
it is not a real issue not to use Kaltura as an integrated CDN (Content
Development Network) since one can be built right from Tiki.

I have no doubts about this. Yet, if I read and understand the main
competitive advantage about Tiki over other CMS's (and Groupware's): it has
the biggest number of features built right into it. Therefore, not to have
the Kaltura Open Source CDN integrated into a future version (although it
may already be possible, I don't know up to what version level) is not a
good selling proposition for any Technology Sales Person like myself.


Note: I will probably meet Marc in person to get his take on this subject
sometimes later when he returns to his hometown as we are neighbors and I
asked to meet him.
