I had previously identified that as an area where there could be a lot of bugs introduced, a lot of effort spent, and a lot of sacrifices made. In a lot of ways, our wiki syntax is a lot more developed. It's kinda a shame that we would trade it in for something so basic-simplistic. One potential solution is to move all our “advanced” wiki syntax into “plugins” Of course that would require writing all those plugins…. I guess a really quick way of doing it would be to write a plugin that uses tiki-wiki syntax and then take our time figuring out all the details. Maybe investigating if there is a standard way of extending wiki in commonMark would be an option worth researching. Or maybe we can implement aspects of our own wiki syntax where they don’t overlap, and just concede that we’ve still got tiki-only wiki syntax and that's fine. So there are lots of things that could be done. It's really not clear to me what's best, or even possible.

I would love for there to be a wiki-marketplace. Where extended wiki syntax could be downloaded and installed from a server. Then we would have one repository that thousands of projects could contribute to. Reduce code duplication across all these projects. Eventually, if something in the marketplace becomes popular and it's agreed, it could then be migrated into CommonMark as standardized wiki-syntax. But maybe this isn't realistic.
