Hi Volker,

Can you check what the "type" parameter is for the menu's module, under 
the "Module" tab? It seems to me this has been set as "horiz" for a long 
time by default but obviously is a vertical menu. I've asked to have 
that switched so that it's correct in new installations, but apparently 
it hasn't been yet. Try changing it to "vert" to see if that fixes the 
problem.
