That makes perfect sense.

Soemthing along the line of http://www.lenya.org/xml/lenya/1.0?

That's what I was affraid of.

A perfect example of this is the page envelope. Do we use namespaces
in it? That means we'll probably have to change all xsps + a few java
classes on top of it. We cannot do this for a single publication since
they share this code. 

This has to be a concerted effort. It can probably be done in a couple
of days, but I thought we were working towards a stable release?
