ABOUT XOPUS

   Xopus is a fully browser based WYSIWYG validating XML editor.

   Xopus is the ultimate tool to enable common users to edit XML
   in a Microsoft Word like environment. Due to its standards
   compliant architecture, deployment is a breeze.

   No browserplugins or ActiveX installs are needed (1). Most
   XML Schema's and XSL Stylesheets can be used as-is.

   Xopus is platform independant, it runs in Microsoft Internet
   Explorer 5.5+, Netscape 7+ and Mozilla 1.0+.

   Besides its ease of use is Xopus also fully configurable and
   extendable.

   A database driver provides an abstraction layer between your
   database/cms/filesystem and Xopus which makes Xopus
   integration a matter of minutes instead of weeks. Various
   ready made database drivers are available, new drivers are
   developed every week.

   Some data types require a custom editing interface. Xopus
   has an editor plugin interface which enables you to write
   your own interface for editing a node while Xopus keeps
   your document valid.

   1) Xopus does require MSXML 4 installed when using Microsoft
      Internet Explorer to provide standards compliant XML
      parsing and XSL transforming.

LICENSE

   There are two versions of Xopus: the open source version and
   a commercial version.

   The open source version is distributed with the license:
   http://xopus.org/index.jsp?menu=licensing
   This version is funded by the funding partners of the Xopus
   open source project. With new funding, a new open source
   version is released.

   The commercial version has more features and less bugs, but
   there is a user based licensing fee.

COMMERCIAL XOPUS

   The commercial version of Xopus is different from the open
   source version:

    - Countless bugfixes
    - Faster, up to 50 times with some XML/XSL files
    - Schema Extensions, fully control node creation
    - Documentation in schema, supply the user with friendly
      node names and context help in various languages
    - Table editor, fully validated and still user friendly
    - List actions
    - Unlimited Undo/Redo
    - Our developer team releases new features daily

   The open source version is upgradeable to the commercial
   version.

OPEN SOURCE XOPUS

   Q42 welcomes contributions to Xopus.
   Unfortunately the Xopus core is not yet stable enough for
   shared development. Other parts (databasedrivers,
   translations, examples, special-datatype-editors) are stable
   enough and can be developed at will. Please contact us if
   you want to contribute.
