One problem you may find is that you are specifying

pubs.root.dirs=src/webapp/lenya/pubs:/home/lenya/src/lenya-pubs

when in fact /home/lenya/ is not in cvs and so probably doesn't exist.

You can remove this from build.properties I think (the colon onwards).

As for the two compile time errors - are you sure you have done a clean 
build? (ie ant clean before ant install)

I just compiled Lenya myself and didn't see those problems so I sorry I 
couldn't be of more help.

However even when you compile the current development version I got this 
error with the recommended tomcat version.

org.apache.xml.utils.WrappedRuntimeException: The output format must have a 
'{http://xml.apache.org/xslt}content-handler' property!
