If you have a publication where the content is within the filesystem, then you basically just delete the "content/authoring" and "content/live" directories. I guess you also don't want to share your access control files, which are located within "content/ac". If your content is within a relational DB, then you just don't add the Dump of the content tables. and once i understand how to so do, via what > mechanism do i share? I think we could offer a page on the Lenya project site, where your publication will be categorized and listed, plus some "meta" information (publication.xml). From there we could point a link to your place from where the publication can be downloaded.
