Re: [Wyonacms-dev] Installing Instructions winnt

I have attached a commented version of the how-to (comments in <comment> 
tags) to this post. I do not have the time and ressources to test it 
actually (new PC, not everything installed yet), but with those 
comments, it should work. If anybody is still having trouble, I will 
gladly install and test everything, but I prefer not doing it right now 
if it is not necessary :-)

Anyway, I am always here if support is needed, just drop me a mail (in 
case I don't have the time to catch up with the list).

Prerequisites
-------------

You need a tool to extract files
for example powerarchiver or winzip. You can get it from:
http://www.powerarchiver.com/download/
http://www.winzip.com
 
You need to have installed jdk.
Point your favorite browser to http://java.sun.com Get the jdk and install it in c:\

installed, so specifiying "c:/" seems confusing to me. I think that you should just point out 
that "JDK should be installed, for details see http://java.sun.com/"

Directory structure
-------------------

make a directory "cms" and within this directory two others "build" and "src"
Put in your "cms\build" directory "Tomcat" and "Ant" (Description follows)
Put the wyona-cms in your "cms\src" directory (Description follows)

Installation
------------ 
1) Get, install, start, try and stop Tomcat            

Download jakarta-tomcat-4.0 or a newer version from http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/
Extract it to the directory "cms\build"

Start a dos window ant type:
( dos commands are marked with a > )


set ANT_HOME=c:\cms\build\jakarta-ant-1.4.1
set CATALINA_HOME=C:\cms\build\jakarta-tomcat-4.0
set JAVA_HOME=c:\jdk1.3.1_03
set PATH=%PATH%;%ANT_HOME%\bin

like NT, 2000, and XP. Instead go to "Control Panel / System / Advanced / Environment Variables"
(this is XP, other wins might be slightly different) and set them there. Important: close all

Start Tomcat:

C:\cms\build\jakarta-tomcat-4.0\bin\startup.bat

Getting Tomcat to start can sometimes be a little tiring, especially because when you use 
startup.bat, Catalina will open in a new DOS-Box, and if it does not start, this DOS-Box will be 
closed immediately, making it impossible to read any error messages.
Tip: use "catalina.bat run" instead of "startup.bat" until you get Tomcat running correctly, this 
won't open a new DOS-Box.

Point your favorite browser to http://localhost:8080
(You should get the tomcat start page)

Stop Tomcat:

C:\cms\build\jakarta-tomcat4.0\bin\shutdown.bat




2) Get and install Ant

Download jakarta-ant from http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-ant/nightly/
Extract it to the directory "cms\build"

3) Get Wyona

choose a) or b)

a) Download the newest wyona snapshot from http://www.wyona.org/download
Extract it to the directory "cms\src\"


rename this directory wyonacms:

move wyona-cms-2.1-dev-src-20020605123945 wyonacms (write the actual name of your
downloaded file)

b) Get wyonacms from the CVS Server

1.Download WinCVS (v1.2) (homepage is http://www.wincvs.org/); 2.Install it; 3.Start it; 4.Click on admin->commandline
5.In "Enter a cvs line command" enter cvs -d :pserver:[email protected]:/repository checkout wyonacms
(No password needed)
6.If everything goes well, messages will start to appear in the log window; 
7.Wait until you see "*****CVS exited normally with code 0*****" in the log window; 
8.The wyonacms source is now on your harddrive.
Make shure the downloaded "wyonacms" is in the directory "cms\src\"



4) Build Wyona


cd C:\cms\src\wyonacms
ant




5) Install Wyona for Development

make a copy of build.properties.sample and name it: build.properties
In this file you have to set "install.dir" and "cache.dir"
as follows:
install.dir=C:\/cms\/build\/jakarta-tomcat-4.0\/webapps\/wyona-cms
cache.dir=C:\/cms\/build\/jakarta-tomcat-4.0\/work\/Standalone\/localhost\/wyona-cms
(Make shure, you write the matching name of your tomcat version)

Are you sure about the double slashes ("\/")? As far as I know, using forward-slashes is enough,
ant will translate them to backslahes if needed. So you could write "C:/foo/bar" for paths
on windows systems. This works for sure.
Also, I don't remember the "Standalone" part of the cache directory. I don't have Tomcat installed 
right now, if you need clarification on that, pls let me know, and I will test.
