        Applied simon's patch. Is this actually used somewhere in core? Couldnt find a place. The patch makes sense from a logical point of view though 
        (dont invent something new along the way, make both sides equivalent, blah blah etc.) If it breaks somewhere, that somewhere should be fixed anyway.
