In that case, it's in your advantage to run it separately, because it
reduces the load on your server.

2. you're on a shared server with no access to any of the above

In that case, you may not want to enable auto-cache regeneration
at all, because it causes peak loads which your hoster won't like.

Of course, if we're only talking about regenerating 2 or 3 pages,
then there's no real problem - but anything more and you're likely
to fall in either of those two categories :-)
