Well, I'd be happy if I could report 24% improvement in response times
and 38% decrease of memory usage after shutdown ... but somehow I doubt
this will have any visible effect - to be tested :-)

Shutdown functions in general make me feel a bit nervous though, so
if we can avoid unnecessary registrations of them (by default), I
feel much better already :-)
