I doubt that Xaraya and IPB will merge someday - their primary goals
are different. However, that doesn't mean that we can't improve how
they work together.

At the moment, "integration" is limited to an authentication module
in Xaraya that allows you to use IPB's user database instead of Xaray's
own user database. This could mean two things :

a) it's easier to extend Xaraya to use some external user database
than to extend IPB to do the same, or
b) it's easier to access IPB's user database than to access Xaraya's
user database for authentication purposes, or
c) both of the above - which is probably the fairest way to put things :-)

So if we want to continue down this road, we need to make sure that
1. IPB is easier to extend and to integrate with external systems
2. Xaraya is easier to integrate from external systems

Both goals can be achieved separately, as long as there's some common
denominator somewhere - or some common vision of what the interfaces
should look like. And the same applies to re-using other parts of either
environment.

Unfortunately, with so many different systems out there, we don't seem
to agree on common interfaces beyond the basics.
