Okay - this is kind of important - not just to me, but potentially Xaraya as well. The client's current site gets hundreds of thousands of visits every month... and is begining to go global, pulling in visitors from South Africa, Australia, Newzeland etc, as well as the UK (and apparently Japan/China too). That much exposure has got to be good for Xaraya, right? The two problems I'm facing is I don't think the Client realises what he is asking for... and that part of the job entails what I view as a custom web-application. If you follow rugby, then you know what I mean with the following - (or any sport)... There are tables for; Leagues (about 32 in total) Divisions (3 or 4 per league) Teams/Clubs 16 per League/Division) Players (well, possibly 70 members per Team/Club) Then you have .... Fixtures (who plays who and when) Results (who got what, when and how) All of these tie into each other. Further, the input forms are built of the first set of tables. Worse, there is filtering in the output of dropdowns etc... so if you are in League A, you only see the Teams from League A, you only get to see Players listed for the selected Team, not several thousand etc. The Fixtures are based on League and Date. As are the MAtch Results. Plus there are various Statistical outputs, including Graph (I think I could do that with simple If's and css :) ) My concern is building the damned clever forms that only get in the relevant info. I'd have to build lord knows what critera to compute with, then output. Lets face it, as they say - I aint all dat smart - not when it comes to this. The DB structure is fairly obvious... numerous tables holding preset data... followed by "resulting" tables comprising of data from the first set, and results from games etc. Their may be a dynamic table as well, to hold comutations in and to more easily output stats (not 100% sure on this). I'm also worried about server load. Not only will the site be being hit by an average of 20,000+ visitors every Friday, Saturday and Sunday... the client also wants a whole bunch of normal options as well such as forums, membership, multiple editors to input data etc.... Will this make the site run slow ? Well, if all of that made sense, input and ideas more than welcome. If the custom application is above my skills/knowledge/capability - I'm more than willing to outsource that part of the project. I will need to know how fast it can be done, how reliable it will be and what the cost is. Of ocurse, this would all depend on what you'd have to do, so if from the details above you have a good idea of what is entailed and know you can do it, please do contact me.
