To say the number of mail lists would be reduced is incorrect.

However, the intention is to direct traffic towards the website, since 
that's where the majority of the community seem to be looking.

As the mail list subscribers migrate to using the website as their venue for 
discussions we would anticipate that the lists will see less overall use. 
Consideration may need to be given to dead lists (of which, bar spam, we 
have a few already) in that sense, over time, the number of mail lists may 
reduce.
