It is possible to subscribe to threads, though.  I don't know if there's 
much need to know what threads are new since last visit, unless it's one 
you're monitoring... the subscription is sufficient for that.  FYI, the 
Drupal forum has a great feature where in your account area, you can see 
a list of all threads you've participated in and the number of new posts 
in each of your threads since your last visit to the forum.
