If we moved to require PHP5, it would make sense to take advantage of 
its new features.  Who is going to backport things like exceptions from 
1x to 2x?  As far as I can tell, only Chris and I are working toward the 
1.2 roadmap and killing 1.2 bugs.

Plus, moving 1x to PHP5 would deflate the 2x efforts somewhat.
