Is that the only reason for making 5.3 the minimum requirement? Can it not stay
at 5.2.6 with a workaround for a specific bug (on a specific platform, with a
specific database) being to update PHP to 5.3?

I'm only asking because there are a lot of differences between those two
versions (some modules removed by default and some added).
