Response to Chris Dudley on Documentation

Hi Chris (is miko your alias?),

Sorry for the delay in my response. Sunday is a travel day for me, so I
don't get on to my email much after midday. I have switched this message to
the Documentation News List as you suggested.

Carl Corliss has been back to me directly and we will be communicating
further next week. I would be interested in joining the documentation team,
but have been thinking at this time of just providing some of what I have
already written (for my internal use), as articles on the Xaraya site, after
appropriate perusal by the team members whi are "in the know". I tend to
write documents as I go through the learning process and probably make
assumptions at times that are well off the mark. Hence the need for
appropriate review.

By "internal use", I mean documents I have written to help my developer
contacts back in New Zealand from where I originate (I am currently living
in California), to support some of my web development forays as a hobby /
come possibly small business; long term. I currently work in the Enterprise
Project Management technical deployment space. However, working with large
corporatations means that the work involves a lot of travel. Getting away
from the travel aspect of that is certainly a good reason to build something
around web development (read work locally). And what better framework than
Xaraya.

Given that I am getting a lot out of Xaraya, I am happy to put something
back by providing these documents under whatever licence you wish, provided
they are of an acceptable standard for distribution and are of use to those
who are new to the Xaraya develolpment environment.

While I would be happy to contribute as a member of the documentation team,
all of my documents that I have already produced are in a format that will
be of little use to you. They have all been produced in Mirosoft Word and
their translation to something useful in the Open Source world would, I
fear, be quite tiresome.

If you want a sample of what I have already produced, I can send on a copy
of the Xaraya Security Model description I wrote. I already have a number of
corrections to include, subsequent to feedback I received from mikespub. I
will try to update those over the next week or so, but in the meantime, if
you want a copy, let me know (send me your email address), and I'll send it
on to you. I understand that attachments are not permitted on the News Group
postings.

I trust all of this gives you a feel for where I currently am at with
Xaraya. Off and on, I have messed around with Xaraya for over a year now,
without having developed a full production site. My fulltime job has always
kept me too busy. However, I am now very close to rolling out my first
Production site. I also feel that currently I have a bit more time to invest
in getting to know Xaraya better. So, while I am doing this, I want to be
able to give back something at the same time.

  and helping out wherever I can.

I would imagine that the docs will eventually take the form of articles
on xaraya.com. So it may be worth writing them in html from the outset.
Or maybe writing it in something like OpenOffice.org would be easier in
the short term.

It might be worth moving this discussion to the docs list so we can
discuss further what would go in this type of document.

The docs list should be listed on the communications page on xaraya.com
so please do subscribe to it if you are interested in helping out.

The only other thing worth mentioning is that like all other
code/docs/etc submissions need to be under the GPL.
