Why not just assign the new priv to the existing users role since that is

a short tutorial (I hope I won´t forget to mention anything) to enable
registered users to comment and rate stuff on your site... it´s a hook/priv
issue, so I thought it might help nontechies like me ;-) There was a posting
about comments before, but that was about how to turn them off...


activate all modules you want to have comments and ratings in (usually
articles)

activate the comment and ratings modules

click on modules-->configure hooks-->comments/ratings

choose below "all articles : Display articles" any pubtype you want the
comments/ratings to appear, i.e. "news articles"

(at this point, I´m not sure: do I have to enable the comment and ratings
hook in the article hook configuration as well?)

add a new empty priv called "normal users" or anyway you like it

add another priv, but with rights, call it "comments", with the following
options:
all:comments:all:comment and assign it to the "normal users" group

add another priv for ratings with rights, call it "ratings", with the
following options:
all:ratings:all:comment and assign it to the "normal users" group

et voila. it works for me, if I left something out or this is not the best
way to do it, let me know :-)
