multisites and multi-translations on articles

While talking about wether official Xaraya-Sites should be centralised and
how translations could be handled with them, this popped up in my mind and
the dev-NG some time ago. I bring it up here again because it seems to be
also UI-related (and important - at least to me:)

This is about distributing different (or multi) translations on articles of
any kind on single or multisites  - and smart navigation:

What if you'd be able to call any domain of a  certain set of domains or
subdomains (sites or subsites), but then
being presented with a self-configured set of article-content from different
languages (by configuring your basic language and adding secondary ones as
well). Same applies to any sort of forum or better - threaded comments.
I can imagine (within a XML based and DB-driven ML) being able to merge
languages to different sets. For instance you'd use english, italian, french
and german in a set, but without doubling articles wich are already present
in any primary or secondary language - so every language you wish would be
present and you'd receive the best selection of articles on a single site
from a set of sites. Additionally you could switch between languages on a
single article (if a translation for it so far is present).

Advantage would be to have the best choice of articles of any kind in any
language you'd think your capable of understanding.

Generally I like to come in through a door next to me and then go, by my
preferences set, to the language-set that applies to my settings (first
visitors may need to be pointed to this option), this self-configured
language-set may have a larger, a smaller or differing scale of content, but
that's my decision then.

All this is about, is just not to use bookmarking or address-typing or
linking to switch contents. It is switching by preferences set by yourself
and additionally changing these options on the fly while reading a single
article - and that's much better, because it has only a single occurence (in
my preferences, where I set this ideally once), and it serves me with the
contents customized to my needs every time I visit until I change it again.

AFAIK the ML-architecture of Xaraya is not too far away from letting this
become a reality...
