Internationalization is the missing component of the trio here.
ML and Translations module should take care of most of it but its worth
bearing in mind anyway.
Use of symbols like national flags, etc.. should be avoided because of
internationalization issues (e.g. China isnt too happy if you use the Taiwanese
flag anywhere in your site), and there are other guidelines too.
