OK I had a go at translating the comments module.
I used the character selection tool to paste in =FC=DF and it worked fine=
.
So I've no idea what the umlaut problems are cos it seems to work for me.

How are you entering the umlauts?
Make sure you are using UTF-8 if your client has an option to specify=20
the codepage, though it should just detect that from the webpage.=20
Pasting in umlauts from an ISO document into the UTF-8 webpage will=20
probably not work. But just typing them into the text entry forms in the=20
translation module works fine for me - and thats the way it is designed=20
to work.
