This has certainly been an interesting, more so, fascinating thread.



I had two weeks recently in which I was able to get back to messing around 
with Xaraya, which is really a hobby for me. Upon returning to Xaraya after 
at least 10 months of absence, I must admit I was disappointedly surprised 
at how the number of postings per day on the News Groups had declined. To 
me, it seemed to suggest a possible decline in interest around Xaraya. On 
the other hand, perhaps there are just fewer issues occurring on which 
people need to reach for help.



To see a discussion such as this quadruple the traffic over a few days has 
been kind of refreshing. It suggests there are still a number of people who 
have a deep interest in seeing Xaraya mature to another level.



And then hearing about the efforts that are going into the Xaraya 2.x branch 
made me realize that what I consider to be a very solid foundation on which 
to build is in fact in good hands, in terms of the path ahead. Sadly, what I 
also think this does indicate is that the message is not getting out that 
things are healthy in terms of Xaraya's future.



Upon looking through the content of the Xaraya.com site, there is no mention 
of the plans for Xaraya going forward, at least in any place of prominence 
on the Home Page.



I am probably the least qualified to comment here, as my Project Management 
business takes me away from my Xaraya hobby for extended periods. But what I 
was hoping would happen, in the months I had been absent from the Xaraya 
scene, is that things would have grown substantially. Instead, I have been 
somewhat disappointed about the limited or in some cases a total lack of 
responses to various technical questions I had posted (albeit, that I 
managed to figure a number of them out myself, after enough digging).



My own experiences aside, I would have thought that things like the split of 
the Mambo / Joombla Open Source effort(s) would have provided a prime 
opportunity to attract a new set of experienced developers to the Xaraya 
family. I am wondering if their News Groups were poled for interest at the 
time of the split. I was kind of surprised that things had, if not 
regressed, at least leveled out somewhat.



Although I am not one of those who rely on Xaraya as a basis for my income 
(it would certainly be nice to be in that situation one day, as it might cut 
down my current travel commitments), I do have a real interest in seeing 
what I think is a great framework continue to develop.



While I would prefer not to get into the detailed discussion that started 
this thread, as I don't think I am sufficiently qualified to comment to any 
extent, I would certainly be interested in seeing continue interaction along 
these lines.



Based on my Enterprise Project Management Solutions experience, given the 
nature of a community driven Open Source endeavor like Xaraya, I am amazed 
that things are as well organized in the backend code, as they currently 
exist. I would suggest that it would be a phenomenal endeavor to get such a 
modularized structure totally consistent (at least coding practices wise), 
without a considerable management effort and serious delays in feature 
releases. When competing with other Open Source offerings, I would suggest 
that such delays would be untenable.



But back to this particular thread. I think it can only be beneficial to 
hear more about what people are doing in the background to make Xaraya the 
best Open Source platform upon which to build dynamic web applications, 
going forward.



A am sure that no Open Source offering that participates in the same space 
as Xaraya is flawless, when it comes to the way the backend is pulled 
together. But for me, about three years ago when I initially started working 
with Xaraya, I considered it to be the best available at that time (after 
some considerable research).



Given what I am hearing about the things that are happening with the Xaraya 
2.x branch, perhaps it will continue to be that way going forward.



I can certainly say that, over my patchy history with Xaraya development, 
without a doubt, the core developers in the Xaraya Community have been some 
of the most helpful and technically knowledgeable people I have been 
fortunate enough to have communicated with.
