Yes, both ways would be useful. Put a feture request in to 
http://bugs.xaraya.com/ to add a "remove from this role" button against each 
user on the user overview screen. It may even be good to add a pop-up that 
lists all the roles a user is a member of, and allow any to be removed right 
there.
