Vanishing dollar signs!

I'm having this hugely annoying problem with a specific Xaraya install on a DreamHost server where each time my client (or I) enter a price with a dollar sign before it, for example: $5.50, it vanishes and swallows the first digit too! So in this example the resulting numbers displayed on the page would be .50 rather than the proper $5.50 These are the places I've tested this: WYSIWYG editor (TinyMCE - latest version) window TinyMCE textarea without active editor Normal Article textarea (no WYSIWYG editor) All produce the same result. Do I need to set something up differently, its very puzzling? I'm sure this worked before moving to DreamHost too. Anyone got any bright ideas? Oh and if I encode the dollar sign as an HTML entity it works fine, except next time I go to edit the document the entity has en-encoded itself and I get the same problem! Cheers, Tanc
