I've been trying to upgrade to JacORB 2.2 and have been having quite a few issues.
First, my situation involves an applet. The new Configuration class in JacORB makes
doing an applet pretty tough (much harder than before) and makes it so that I have
to put properties files in very un-natural places (lots of them) and set up lots of
FilePermissions in our plug-in installation that I normally would not do.

OK, enough complaining. Now, to the real issue. After upgrading the servers to
JacORB 2.2, running our suite of server tests and getting them set up on one of our
test boxes, I'm trying to test the applet. After getting the properties figured out,
I can't get past a particular error that happens each time the applet tries to access
the Name Service. (This worked in 1.4.1). Here is the stack trace:

[ base configuration loaded from file C:\PROGRA~1\Java\J2RE14~1.2_0\lib\orb.properties ] [ configuration jacorb loaded from file D:\etc\jacorb.properties ] Returning COSNamingServiceConnection with applet in LOGONMANAGER Application MECORU2 ERROR> Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 01:09:24.640 Thread-4/1.4.2_04/Sun Microsystems Inc./Windows XP/5.1/MECORU/MECORU2/1087884564640 LogonManager: Exception Caught while doing a lookup on the COSNamingServiceConnection in LogonManager.serverInit()...java.lang.NullPointerException Application MECORU2 ERROR> at org.jacorb.orb.Delegate.get_client_policy(Unknown Source) Application MECORU2 ERROR> at org.jacorb.orb.Delegate.getReplyStartTime(Unknown Source) Application MECORU2 ERROR> at org.jacorb.orb.Delegate.releaseReply(Unknown Source) Application MECORU2 ERROR> at org.omg.CORBA.portable.ObjectImpl._releaseReply(Unknown Source) Application

I get multiple of these since the applet has to get access to around 7 servers to get going.
This Delegate.get_client_policy() method seems to be the culprit every time.

Does anybody have any suggestions for getting around this issue?

Subject: [jacorb-developer] JacORB 2.2 available

Dear Subscribers,

we are please to announce the availability of the new JacORB
release, version 2.2. This release adds flexible ORB config-
uration, so that you can now have multiple ORBs in one process
with different configurations. The new release also improves
performance and scalability, provides more consistent and fine-
grained logging, and fixes a number of restrictions.

For details, please see the Release Notes and the list of fixed bugs
http://www.jacorb.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED&resolution=FIXED&resolution=INVALID&email1=&emailtype1=substring&emailassigned_to1=1&email2=&emailtype2=substring&emailreporter2=1&bugidtype=include&bug_id=&changedin=&votes=&chfield=resolution&chfieldfrom=2004%2F01%2F05&chfieldto=Now&chfieldvalue=&short_desc=&short_desc_type=allwordssubstr&long_desc=&long_desc_type=allwordssubstr&bug_file_loc=&bug_file_loc_type=allwordssubstr&field0-0-0=noop&type0-0-0=noop&value0-0-0=&field0-0-1=noop&type0-0-1=noop&value0-0-1=&cmdtype=doit&newqueryname=&order=Reuse+same+sort+as+last+time

Please note that upgrading to 2.2 requires migrating your
properties files as explained in the documentation.

Thanks to all bug reporters who helped us improve JacORB.

Regards, Gerald
