The server uses jdk 1.4.2_05. However, there should be no difference 
between different versions of Java. Instead I would suspect that the 
change in the behavior of your robot may be caused by the speed of 
OpenGL. Can you check that OpenGL is running about the same speed with 
your new linux upgrade. It is often necessary to install nVidia or ATI 
drivers to get OpenGL running at full speed.
