I think that the robots still look as though they are ice-skating and
as if they have very little body weight.  I think that increasing the
weight and friction would mean that people could develop more lifelike
movements, whether they are more like human movements or robot
movement.  I think it looks very strange when the robots are sliding
around on the judo mat.

This may also have the benefit of making things a little more even for
the next comp as contestants will at least have to modify thier code
to get their robot to work under different enviromental conditions.
