The position in based at Inria Saclay Ile-de-France, within the
CEDAR team, joint with Ecole Polytechnique (https://team.inria.fr/cedar/),
and thus at the heart of a stimulating scientific environment. The CEDAR
team works on models and expressive languages for Web data, as well as on
efficient algorithms to tackle heterogeneous and complex data  at a
large scale. We work in particular on documents, graph data, data with complex
semantics, heterogeneous data warehouses and/or other ad-hoc format for
emerging applications.

The engineer will be working under the supervision of Ioana Manolescu,
head of the CEDAR team, and of Michaël Thomazo, Inria researcher in the
CEDAR team.



Mission

RDF-Commons is a library for RDF data management, dealing with data
loading, storage and indexing, as well as semantic querying. This
library is at the core of numerous projects of the team, allowing semantic use of
(Linked) Open Data. The proposed mission consists in the extension of
the library in order to ease future developments around these topics. As
such, the code should be easy to use by researchers, PhD students and interns,
as well as by close collaborators of the team. An open source distribution
of the source code towards the end of the project is wished.

Job offer description

The work will be performed in close interaction with advisors on the one
side, and with interns and PhD Students on the other side. The chosen
candidate will have to:

    - understand Semantic Web concepts necessary to the understanding of the library (RDF, RDFS, DL-Lite,...);
    - discover the current source code, in interaction with the team's researchers;
    - propose and develop new modules in order to ensure interoperability of the software with other existing RDF tools;
    - ensure compatibility with the Semantic Web querying standard, SPARQL;
    - in collaboration with team members, design and implement new querying algorithms;
    - support team members in their use of the library.


Skills and profile

The minimal technical requirements are those of an engineer with solid
Java software engineering knowledge and skills, as well as good development
habits. Advanced knowledge in databases would be appreciated.

The ability to work within a team, the will to learn and the ability to
master new concepts will be highly considered skills.
