BICOD (formerly BNCOD) is an international venue for research papers in the broad area of data management. The conference has a long tradition of presenting research from both the UK and internationally ‐ see for example BNCOD 2013 http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/bncod2013/ and BICOD 2015 http://conferences.inf.ed.ac.uk/BICOD2015/. 

In 2017, BICOD will be held in London, UK, one of the most vibrant and exciting capital cities in the world.  The conference will be held at Birkbeck, University of London, whose Department of Computer Science and Information Systems will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2017.  Birkbeck is located in Bloomsbury, an area of London renowned for its cultural and educational credentials.

Keynote speakers will be Sihem Amer-Yahia (Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble), Tim Furche (University of Oxford, CTO Wrapidity Ltd), and Elena Baralis (Politecnico di Torino) whose keynote will be joint with RuleML+RR 2017 (http://2017.ruleml-rr.org/) which is also being held at Birkbeck.  A tutorial on programming models and tools for distributed graph processing will be given by Vasiliki Kalavri (ETH Zurich).

Call for Papers
===============
BICOD 2017 solicits original research papers on all aspects of data management, with a particular focus this year on Data Analytics. The conference proceedings will be published in Lecture Notes in Computer Science by Springer. In order to avoid no-shows, only papers for which at least one author attends the conference and pays the registration fee in full by the time of the first deadline will be published.

Authors of selected best papers will be invited to submit extended versions for publication in The Computer Journal.

For the last few years, every edition of BICOD/BNCOD has been associated with a theme, acting as a focal point for keynote addresses, research papers and tutorials. The theme of BICOD 2017 is Data Analytics, that is, the process of deriving higher-level information from (usually large) sets of raw data.

BICOD 2017 especially solicits papers in the following areas:

. Data cleansing
. Data mining and knowledge discovery
. Data integration and warehousing
. Data stream processing
. Data visualisation
. Data wrangling
. Graph and NoSQL databases
. Scalability in data management
. Statistical data management and analysis
. System architectures for data analytics
. Uncertainty management in databases
. Visual analytics

Papers on other relevant topics, including but not limited to the ones below, are also welcome:

. Approximate and flexible querying
. Data indexing and summarisation
. Data privacy and security
. Data provenance
. Large-scale data management
. Ontology-based data access
. Probabilistic databases
. Query languages and query optimisation
. Semantic search in databases
. Supporting users' search and exploration

Types of paper 
==============
We invite submission of full-length Research papers and Student papers (both up to 12 pages). We also invite papers addressing novel Applications of data analytics techniques (of length up to 6 pages).

The first author of a Student paper must be a PhD student at the time of submission. There will be a prize awarded for the best presentation by a PhD student at the BICOD 2017 conference, generously sponsored by Neo Technologies.

Authors should submit first an Abstract for their paper - deadline 12 February 2017 - and then the full paper itself - deadline 19 February 2017. The conference management tool for the submission of Abstracts and Papers is accessible at
