************************************************************** ** Call for Participation/Papers ** **The 2021 Visualization in Data Science (VDS at ACM KDD and IEEE VIS)** ** August 14-18, 2021, Virtual Conference ** ** Held in conjunction with KDD'21 ** ************************************************************** Extended deadline for submission: May 27, 2021, 5:00 pm PDT Transformations in many fields are enabled by rapid advances in our ability to acquire and generate data. The bottleneck to discovery is now our ability to analyze and make sense of heterogeneous, noisy, streaming, and often massive datasets. Extracting knowledge or insights from this abundance of data lies at the heart of 21st century discovery, which can be used to inform decisions, coordinate activities, optimize processes, improve products and services, as well as enhance productivity and innovation across a wide range of business and scientific problems. Data science is the practice of deriving insights from data, enabled by statistical modeling, computational methods, interactive visual analysis, and domain-driven problem solving. Data science draws from methodology developed in such fields as applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, data mining, data management, visualization, and HCI. It drives discoveries in business, economy, biology, medicine, environmental science, the physical sciences, the humanities and social sciences, and beyond. ** Important Dates (please see: http://www.visualdatascience.org/2021/cfp/) - May 27, 2021, 5:00 pm PDT: Paper and Abstract Submission - June 17, 2021: Author Notification - June 25, 2021: Camera-ready Copy for Accepted Submissions - August 14-18, 2021: VDS Workshop at ACM KDD - October 24-29, 2021: VDS Symposium at IEEE VIS ** Call for Participation/Papers (For details, please see: http://www.visualdatascience.org/2021/cfp/) We encourage you to submit original work that emphasizes the role, application, and impact of visualization in data science. Papers that integrate visualization with any stages of the data science pipeline (collecting data, cleaning data, mining data, exploring data, and communicating data) would be welcome as submissions to VDS. Accepted submissions have the opportunity to present at VDS events at both ACM KDD (https://www.kdd.org/kdd2021/) and IEEE VIS (http://ieeevis.org/year/2021/welcome). This event accepts full and short paper submissions for talks. Submissions should be no more than 8 pages long excluding references for full papers and 4 pages for short papers. Papers should follow the formatting guidelines for IEEE VIS TVCG Journal submissions (https://tc.computer.org/vgtc/publications/journal/). ** Workshop Organizers Claudia Plant, University of Vienna (https://dm.cs.univie.ac.at/team/person/59835/) Alvitta Ottley, Washington University in St. Louis (http://visualdata.wustl.edu/) Liang Gou, Bosch Research (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=x3VK0fAAAAAJ&hl=en) Torsten Möller, University of Vienna (https://vda.cs.univie.ac.at/team/person/49839/) Adam Perer, Carnegie Mellon University (https://perer.org/) Alexander Lex, University of Utah (https://vdl.sci.utah.edu/team/lex/) Junming Shao, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (https://dm.uestc.edu.cn/junming-shao/) ** Further Information Please visit workshop website: http://www.visualdatascience.org/2021/ Please use [email protected] to get in touch with us, or follow us on Twitter at @VisualDataSci (https://twitter.com/VisualDataSci). _______________________________________________ Please do not post msgs that are not relevant to the database community at large.
