Backup history cleaning

Hello all,

We have MaxDB 7.6.00.12 at Suse Linux 10 operating system.

I want to clean all the time increasing backup history.

I didn't find a way to do this.

I tried to shutdown database then delete files dbm.knl and dbm.mdf at =
the Rundirectory.

But after starting database these files appeared again with the same =
contents as before deleting.

Does anybody have any hint to clean backup history
