Mckoi may be used freely with any other software under any license. The restrictions with the GPL come into effect when you distribute the combined work. If you distribute an application with a GPL component, such as Mckoi, then the rest of the product must also be released under an open source GPL compatible license. GPL compatible licenses include modified BSD, LGPL, etc. You can find a complete list of GPL compatible licenses at http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses. You can use Mckoi in a non-GPL product but you need to be careful. Also note that if you ask the end-user to install Mckoi separately then obviously there is no limitation on the type of license you use. Toby.
