binary fields - / Vs. %

I'm reading data from a jet database which has binary fields in it.
When vewing the data in access, the binary fields appear as either a
"/" or "%" (This is not the actual data - just how it is displayed
when viewing the table in access).

Now I'm fairly certain that this means something important. But when I
read the fields using mdb-tools, the data is read the same for all
records (whether they appear as "/" or "%" in access).

Can anyone help me tell the difference between these using mdb-tools?
(If it helps, I'm using this to read an Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0
database).

Thanks.
