how can i check the corrupt of metakit db?

i have a corrupt metakit db file.
when i read it, happen a segment fault....
so, my program is stopped...

how check whether it is corrupt or not?

the following is the part of  my source.
maildb_path  = FindUserHomePath(userid)
maildb = metakit.storage( maildb_path +"/accntdb.mk", 1 )
accntDBView = accntDB.view("Mail")  ====> here segment fault...
