The embargo is lifted by now so I would like to announce SLIMS the
small laboratory information and management system. I am uploading
the Mac version as we speak.

The corresponding paper is published in Chemistry and Biology this
month and the web site is http://slims.sourceforge.net/

There is an awful lot of good (and bad) python source code buried in
the distribution that I will slowly begin filtering out over the next
couple of months, one of the nicest is a mapping between wxWindows
virtual grid and metakit views that is a major extension of my
previous KitViewer. This also allows storage of images and other
datatypes in the metakit view and various translations between them.

As I found, the real beauty of this is that any metakit storage now
has a nicely attached gui. I probably used this a little too heavily
since I thought it was pretty cool. The downside is that I had to
extend metakit a bit with extraneous type information to know what
columns are what type for viewing purposes.

Let me know if you are interested in the paper, I have a pdf that I
feel comfortable giving out to a few people, and a hearty thanks to JC
who made a lot of this possible. You should certainly get a copy of
the pdf, since I thanked you there as well :)

Brian
