The file size limit is dependent on your OS. If you have a 64 bit system, then you have more than 2GB files. You might want to take a look at pytables which is very metakit-like in some respects http://pytables.sourceforge.net/html/WelcomePage.html I'm not sure how well it maps to sql though.
