MySQL 5.5 has some audit functionality. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/writing-audit-plugins.html However, It's not "all there". If you look at the mysql bk-commits email list at around Jan-April 2008, there are additional patches which hook into many parts of MySQL, including all the phases of connection and authentication.
