What performance advantages are there to migrate from 3.1.10 to 5.0.3 ? Specifically Java related... We're still on 3.1.0 with MySQL 4.1 because its REALLY stable... there isn't as much in the 5.0 series to encourage a migration right now but the partitioning in 5.1 might be something worth migrating too... we'll see...
