Password not saved

Any particular reason why can't I get passwords to be saved?  In the 
Connection Manager I assume that the 'Apply' button is to be used to save 
or update a connection, and when I'm in the Connection Manager, I see a 
line of *'s.  But then when I attempt to connect, the password is always 
blank, and when I return to the Connection Manager, it's blank there as 
well.

Also, why not permit passwords to be save from the initial connect dialog 
that pops up for either the Administrator or Query Browser?

I'm running the gui tools on XP Pro.
