Why isn't there a drop down list for data types in table editor?

Hello,

I work at a college in which we have classes for php/mysql and are currently using mysql
server 4 and mysql control center.

We will be moving to mysql server 5.1 in Sept. and are considering some GUI admin tools.
I've been evaluating mysql's gui tools and am currently using gui tools 5 r12.

I've tried both query browser (v. 1.2.12) and mysql administrator to create tables and there is
no drop down list for the Datatypes in the table editor.

This feature is present in mysql control center but of course that program is no longer
supported.

So my questions are:
Why isn't there a drop down list since the gui tools have been so long in development?

If there are plans to add a drop down list is there any timeline?

Thanks

-Steve O.
