Normally I would agree with you, however I've always had trouble with
the installer before when WB was working - I had to run the installer a
good 4 or 5 times to get it to install without crashing due to a DEP fault.

When I rebuilt my PC, I put 5.0.27 OSS on, whereas before I had 5.0.26
OSS - I did try going back to the older version but it did the same
thing, not sure if it was because I had already installed the newer
version, however.

I can reproduce this behaviour easily enough - re-enable DEP and try to
start WB - it crashes consistently after ~3 seconds of showing the
splash screen and refuses to run. It will literally only run when DEP
is disabled completely.

There are a few bugs that have been previously opened due to issues with
the installer and with WB:

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=37824 - same problem as mine but in XP
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=36440 - Windows installer
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=40762 - another bug with "protected
memory" errors

I've created another report and added a private note which includes the
event log data that was logged when Workbench crashed (v5.0.26.)
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=41022. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Andy
