There is another gui front end product called Toad for MySQL.

It's free so it might be worth a look.

I have to agree with you both.   I use the MySQL Administrator and for
some things it works okay, but certain functions are definitely
unstable.   The User Account portion of this tool is particularly evil!
I've used it to create or modify user accounts (add/remove host entries
from a user) and have some really bad things happen with no explanation
or error message from the tool.   The user list does not change unless
you manually tell it to refresh.   The "clone user" feature seems to be
particularly dangerous to use.  Its crashed on me several times (I gave
up on it).   Until they fix this, I'm using other methods to
create/modify accounts.

However, I really do love the System Health, Session monitors and schema
mgmt in MySQL Administrator - most other tools aren't as nice in this
area.

Both Navicat and SQLyog are pretty nice Admin GUI's, though each of
these 3 tools has their strong features, but then has some lame ones.

If only MySQL would just fix the bugs and add some more features that
the competition has, then it would be a great tool.

You are not alone.

I've been using the GUI tools for quite some time, and I find them to
be unstable at best. (Sorry MySQL guys.) Specifically, they crash a
lot for no apparent reason on my Mac.  I've tried multiple versions of
the tools on multiple version of MacOS.  I'm not exactly sure of the
problem, but generally the applications quit unexpectedly. Thus, I use
them with a large grain of salt and the general expectation that they
will crash when its most inconvenient. In addition, the usability is
limited by inconsistent rendering of SQL in Administrator and the
omission of basic clipboard copy functionality of the results pane in
Query Browser.

That said, given MySQLs OSS roots, I think most long term users use
the tools from the command line, which is almost perfectly reliable.
If my memory serves me, MySQL/Sun have recently made it easier to
engage community involvement in the development of the tools, and I
would expect that to help.

In the meantime, you can use Navicat, which is inexpensive, or become
more well versed at the command line.  If I recall, there may also be
some plug-in capabilities for Eclipse.
