Still no UTF-8 support in DBD::mysql?

Hello,

I've been succesfully using an UTF-8-patched DBD::mysql 2.9008 
(http://lists.mysql.com/perl/3006) for some time now.

However, there still seems to be no UTF-8 support in the official DBD::mysql 
distribution. Are there plans to support UTF-8?

Some people have mentioned on the list that the current patch may not always 
do The Right Thing. What are the circumstances where the patch goes wrong, 
and what should be done to fix it?
