I think there's been some confusion about differences between the Linux version of MySQL and the Windows version. I'll offer what I hope is clarification for what I've noticed on this particular thread. Where I'm wrong, please let me know so that I can improve my knowledge about the MySQL system. 1. my.ini location ------------------- The my.ini file is the windows equivalent of the Linux my.cnf file. There is a search procedure to find it but it's normally stored in the MySQL installation directory on windows systems. On my installation of MySQL 5.0.15 this is: "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0". This is not a directory that Linux has (normally) so the Linux location will be different. I think that location has been reported already. 2. Nested directory name delimiters ------------------------------------ My experience with the windows version of the MySQL system is that every attempt has been made by MYSQL AB to retain commonality for the textual files (e.g. my.ini and my.cnf) between the different platforms. My experience has been that the forward slashes are used in files like my.ini and the MYSQL developers incorporated conversion to the Windows back slashes into the application programs that read the file. The my.ini file on my Windows XP MySQL 5.0 installation contains the line: datadir="C:/Program Files/MySQL/MySQL Server 5.0/Data/" This works. There are no back slashes anywhere in the file. I think this was a good decision on the part of MYSQL AB since it allows people who know the MySQL system to review settings independent of platform in most cases. Regards.
