Hi all,
I have a perl app using MySQL which seems to be running a bit slow. On another site, discussing another problem, unrelated to MySQL, I saw a discussion about how anti-virus programs can slow down apps which do a lot of file opening/closing because they examine each file as it is opened or closed. This prompted me to wonder if this could be the reason for my speed issues. I have about 750+ tables, most of which are being read or written to about every 30 seconds.
Would anybody care to share their thoughts on the impact that antivirus programs might have on MySQL? Does it sound reasonable that resident protection will slow down the database server? Does MySQL actually keep files open or does it open and close them regularly? What anti-virus programs are known to cause/not cause problems?
