we use X via SSH or TELNET and found to be caught in the same situation 
as anti virus software has to check also the TCP/IP traffic.

I forgot the numbers, but the through-put loss was so substancial that 
we do not use anti virus software on Windows clients anymore while they 
are running as X workstations.

MySQL uses also TCP/IP for communication.
