Yes, I just made sure again but echo $ORACLE_SID tells me the right SID.
By the way, I get the same error message when using imp:
Import: Release 8.1.7.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 26 17:18:20 2003

(c) Copyright 2000 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

IMP-00058:
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

I also have a copy of this SID running on another machine where it works
just fine, same ORACLE_SID and uid. Most of the env values are identical..

Subject: [oracle] exp and imp don't work

Hi

I am running oracle 8.1.7.2.0 on several sun solaris 8 servers and on one
of them I cannot use exp or imp. Typing exp results in the following
error:
Export: Release 8.1.7.2.0 - Production on Wed Feb 26 16:49:43 2003

(c) Copyright 2000 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

EXP-00056:
EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

I tried searching google, my own oracle documentation of course and asked
an experienced friend dba but no solution came up.

The main difference between the server on which it doesn't work and the
ones where it does work is that the one that gives me the error is part of
a cluster (sun cluster 2.0) and the other ones are standalone. Further
there are no obvious differences. Anybody have any idea?

Karen.
